Managing Performance

SACE is the South African Council for Educators and aims to enhance the status of the teaching profession through appropriate professional development.


To promote a proactive and systematic approach to performance management by highlighting how managers can agree performance objectives with team members and set up mechanisms for reviewing progress. The course also tackles the thorny issue of poor performance and the key role a manager can play in correcting this.


When you have completed this course, you will be able to:

  • Apply a systematic approach to performance management

  • Set objectives that are in line with the organisation's objectives

  • Coach each of the individuals in your team

  • Evaluate performance using both appraisals and reviews, and know how to deal with poor performance

  • Identify training and development needs within your team and know what training methods can be used to address these needs
